Started from a stalled story
Meralix began with a single stuck project — a reporter with a stack of permit files and no clear order to work through them. What helped wasn't more reporting time; it was an afternoon spent building a map of who to call first and why.
Since then the work has stayed narrow on purpose: not investigating on anyone's behalf, but helping reporters hold their own material well enough to keep working through it without losing track of what they've already found.
Most projects we support involve budgets, permits, corporate filings, and civic records — material that rewards patience more than speed.
